Excerpt Early Hallstatt period discoveries in the area of Măgurele city, Ilfov County

This note concerns a bulk of 50-60 sherds found in a corner of section S II, under stratigraphic conditions that did not allow the excavator to be sure whether they were in a pit or in the layer. All sherds turned out to belong to the same vessel (about 60% of which could be reconstructed using
the half of the sherds: no parts of the rim were recovered). Judging by the rounded breakages of the sherds, the vessel must have been broken long before it was covered with earth: it was probably left behind in an abandoned settlement.
Its shape, decoration - four pairs of knobs and lugs – and, more importantly, the outside black/inside light brown (reducing/light oxidizing, respectively) firing technique has parallels in the early Hallstattt settlement at Popeşti, Giurgiu County, and allows the vessel to be dated into the 9th century BC.
