Excerpt Preliminary data concerning preventive archaeological Investigation at Constantine Voda Inn in Bucharest (1996)

Preventive archaeologic al investigation has led to the discovery of the Western wing of the „Constantine Vodă" Inn in Bucharest. Such diggings were undertaken when inserting a pipe crossing the present Calea Victoriei. Construction phases were indicated, determining human settlement prior to 17th c., followed by the actual building of the inn, which confirms documentary attestation. The Western wing of Constantine Vodă Inn was investigated, thus evidencing details concerning the construction technique. On that occasion, 12 rooms on the Western wing of the inn were investigated, evidencing their respective planimetry. In addition, wooden pillars were found below the inn' s foundation, a frequent building practice in Bucharest, applied to compress the ground. A system of logs, which used to be part of the former Mogoşoaia Bridge (present day
Calea Victoriei), was discovered 'outside the inn.
